Topializ

From the series Amoxohtoca, a long breath artistic research project on oral/mnemonic traditions, indigenous philosophies, modes of writing and experimental composition.

Topializ is a composition given by oral/mnemonic instructions based on Toltecayotl (Toltec Philosophy) and guided by 3 devices which are activated by performative gestures.

This composition, because of its nature, can only be executed 3 times by 3 different couples. Afterwards it will become an archive of its own process. This will be shown as an installation, exhibiting the different processes each couple had as well as the elasticity of the oral/mnemonic instructions between the composer and the 3 couples working between 2015 to the end of the piece.

The composer gives the oral instructions to the first couple, then the first couple will give the instructions to the second one. The same process will happen between the second and third couple.

This composition doesn't try to create a new sound within the compositional process but to focus on the creation of a composition capable of catching - as in a spiderweb - the different processes that can appear in a composition with the vulnerability of being modified depending the memory of the people executing it.

The first iteration was made by Cristián Alvear and Santiago Astaburuaga in Santiago de Chile and published by Marginal Frequency in an edition of 50 tapes.

The second iteration was made by Catriel Nievas and Sergio Merce in Argentina and published by Tumba 7/ Chintete in an edition of 20 tapes.

The third Iteration was made by Andrea Neumann and Lucio Capece in Berlin, Germany and is published by Sacred Realism as an edition of one (only available at the exhibition opening July 12th, 2024 at the Fonoteca Nacional de México, and thereafter in the archives of the Fonoteca), therefore this page and the recorded statements from Rolando are what constitute the release of the third iteration on Sacred Realism.
